We all have an innate inner animal, the beast within, human nature is an extension of animal behaviour - John Simpson recognises this fact and plays upon this dichotomy.

He creates incredibly detailed work that examines Man's complex relationship with the natural world. He draws upon classical mythology and folktales with a draughtsmanship of the highest level.  His work is striking, unsettling even. John exhibits a proficiency rarely seen these days within a framework of references that have been the canon and source material for centuries.

John Simpson's undeniable ability is to capture the essence of these animals, their physical and psychological being. Man is at times being at one with them and at others opposing. His work also delves into our subconscious, exploring fantasy and dreams. This can be innocent and fun, or elsewhere darker and much more ominous.

Simpson has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, London and Sao Paulo.

The Muse at 269 Portobello Road established in 2003 is a hotbed of creative activity, acting as a studio with a residency program and a gallery featuring select exhibitions and events throughout the year.
