Jenny Pockley has carefully selected and compared historic World War II and contemporary imagery of London that specifically evoke for the artist a sense of beauty, tranquillity and at times pathos, while also recognising the weight of history endowed on the city. These images translate into emotionally charged paintings that resonate with the timeless quality of London over the recent past. By introducing metal stretchers, copper and aluminium as well as traditional gesso she reveals her dexterity and technical know-how to create rich painterly surfaces.

'Cityscapes are certainly a familiar subject to Pockley, yet this subject has not stagnated for the artist but rather continued to enrich her oeuvre. London has captured Pockley's imagination in particular; her approach is never to simply record or replicate this city but rather to define its giant personality that is so rich in visual language and treasured for its timelessness.'                                                                                                                                            - Sarah Myerscough
