BOOK LAUNCH ANCIENT WISDOM AND MODERN KNOWHOW: LEARNING TO LIVE WITH UNCERTAINTY With speakers Robert Maxwell, Adrian Forty and Eric Parry Wednesday 27 November 2013 6.30-8pm RSVP to [email protected] WORK and Artifice books on architecture are pleased to invite you to a book launch for 'Ancient Wisdom and Modern Knowhow: Learning to Live with Uncertainty”, a new publication by Robert Maxwell, Emeritus Professor of Architecture at Princeton University. Adept at moving between the examination of modern and contemporary architecture, art, literature and music, Maxwell is a respected scholar whose critical writings articulate the role architecture plays in contemporary culture. In 'Ancient Wisdom and Modern Knowhow”, the author considers the notion of 'doubt” encountered by the modern architect . Robert Maxwell will speak on the occasion of the launch, with responses by Adrian Forty, Professor of Architectural History at The Bartlett, University College London, and Eric Parry, founding director of Eric Parry Architects. A reception and book signing will follow the speeches. 'Ancient Wisdom and Modern Knowhow” follows 'A Few Years of Writing Interspersed with Some Facts of Life”— Maxwell's first publication with Artifice books on architecture in 2012. Both titles will be available at a special discount during the launch, of £20 (RRP £24.95) and £15 (RRP £19.95) respectively, or both for £30. WORK is an independent gallery and even space that presents a varied interdisciplinary programme collaborating closely with innovators in the fields of architecture, art and design from around the world.
