EXHIBITION: London Cityscapes by Anna Dickerson
BARBICAN LIBRARY FOYER: 1 - 26 September 2016
'Meet the Artist' is on Saturday 3rd September at 1 - 3pm
Anna Dickerson's frenetic drawings are the essence of London: vibrant and jostling! There is a collision of Legoland colour with the muted greys so characteristic of London…this is London from the Pontoon docks down to the Battersea Power station. Pastels, wax crayons, colouring pencils and graphite jar and blend to emulate buildings jostling for space and a tide that is never still.
Coinciding with the Totally River Thames Festival 2016, Anna's first solo exhibition at the Barbican library presents 22 new London Cityscape drawings. The Thames is the lead actor around which small moments and stories are narrated, be it a Viking ship being towed, a gull passing…or another red bus on a bridge.
Drawing from life has always been a part of Anna's art practise, complimenting her sustained studio work. After completing her residency drawing animals at the Zoological society of London, the Olympic Games 2012 came to town and the cityscapes began! The Barbican exhibition is the culmination of recent drawings along the Thames.
An exhibition where the drawings are fun, beautiful and clearly exciting to make…
Anna Dickerson studied painting and drawing at Glasgow School of Art and Rhode Island School of Design. Anna was Artist in Residence at London Zoo in 2009/2010, and filmed drawing by the Tate modern as part of their online drawing course, held in the Tate film archive.
