David Messum is proud to present the first major exhibition since 1976 of work by British artist, Arthur Knighton-Hammond. Compelled by a sense of wanderlust, Knighton-Hammond was amongst the most popular artist-travellers of his day, working extensively throughout Europe, North Africa and North America. This exhibition reflects several decades of his career starting from the 1920s in fashionable Cap Martin, to his post war years in rural Somerset. His enduring reputation lies in his fresh and loose 'en plein air' watercolours of daily life and local landscapes, all carefully composed with a rare blend of precision and spontaneity that he honed over his adventitious career.
