We are delighted to announce Flesh, a group exhibition by 25 Tate staff artists. The exhibition opens on 23 May and continues until 29 May.

Tate employees by day and artists by night - Andrew Wyatt, Chris Browne, Maria Christoforatou, Gerald Mcaree, Rose Cleary, Iwona Cislo, Maria Juchnowska, Sabrina Kaici, Lewis Jones, Jaye Cook, Dave Keeping, Catherine Harrison, Elizabeth Wheeler, Emma Donnelly, Myura Amaranath, Pawel Jaskulski, Ignacio Miranda, Luda Michelin, Zohra Lopez Milian, Paula Hillis, Amber Black, Max Reeves, Alexey Moskvin, Pandora Ryan and Ilana Levine have come together to work on this full-scale group exhibition.

Situated in the Crypt Gallery underneath St Pancras Church near Euston, the show revolves around the concept of 'flesh'. In dialogue with each other the artists produced work using a broad range of media - painting, sculpture, photography, design, illustration, film. 'Flesh' invites us to explore the surface or look under it, in search of underlying meanings and symbolisms.

Coming from different backgrounds and perspectives the artists explored the theme in a myriad of different ways. The texture of skin, toughness of muscle tissue, layers of paint, presence and weight of sculpture: visual or tactile experience of flesh brings limitless associations. Subtlety, uneasiness, intimacy or provocation are all part of the show. Inspired by nature, myths, human interaction and behaviour of materials the works complement each other and the unique surroundings of the gallery space.
