For the Gibraltarian their place is the ‘Rock’, which nurtures their physical selves and their culture, which is sacred to them.
-Philippa Beale, Curator
Artists from Gibraltar will be exhibiting at Bermondsey Project Space this September. The work explores the meaning of ‘Gibraltar: Our Sacred Earth, Our Sense of Place’. Each artist interprets their home and the title in different way; a reflection of their relationship with their intimate surroundings. The show features both young and established artists in range of media; paintings, sculptures and installations. These artists have been active in Gibraltar and the international scene over the past year and many have won top prizes in competitions with international adjudicators.
The exhibition has been organised by Gibraltar Cultural Services on behalf of HM Government of Gibraltar and is curated by Philippa Beale. The fully illustrated catalogue includes a forward by Matthew Collings. The launch of the exhibition at BPS forms part of Gibraltar’s National Week celebrations, aiming to highlight the Rock’s artistic community and identity.
