Jake Wood-Evans is a contemporary, classically inspired figurative artist known for his ethereal oil paintings.
Taking influence from artists such as J.M.W. Turner, Gainsborough and Romney, Wood-Evans’ paintings pay tribute to art history. Drawing on these masters’ legacies, his intention is to capture the spirit of historic works without replicating them, depicting familiar but obscured subject matter while retaining the essence of the original painting. In Relic, Wood-Evans premieres new works produced exclusively for this solo exhibition at The Gallery.
Returning to his enduring love of the Baroque for inspiration, through the likes of Rubens and Van Dyck, Wood-Evans explores memory and mortality to engage and captivate the viewer.
Presented in partnership with Unit London.
