Louise Bourgeois and Collected Women

20-21 Visual Arts Centre is delighted to host a series of 25 prints by one of the most important and influential female artists of the last century. Louise Bourgeois is best-known for her emotionally charged works exploring the unconscious, desire and the body. The exhibition includes Bourgeois' Autobiographical Series, and a selection of 11 drypoints from the Arts Council Collection. Created towards the end of her seven decade career, these deeply personal prints capture some of the artist's deepest thoughts and memories, and anxieties.

Accompanying the exhibition, 12 female artists from North and North-East Lincolnshire have been invited to make works that respond to Bourgeois' work. The selection includes artworks in textiles, photography and mixed media, telling tales about their lives and experiences. Also on display as part of Collected Women are a series of quilts, made by textile artist Nicky Dillerstone in partnership with community and textile groups across the region.
