Born in Prestatyn, North Wales, Barry Flanagan studied at Birmingham College of Art and Crafts and St. Martin's School of Art in London. He went on to teach at St. Martin's School of Art and the Central School of Arts and Craft.
He was one of Britain's most original sculptors.
